When asked what made him make a show for television, he said that television has wider scope than cinema. There is television in each home in the country, but people often don’t reach out to cinema. This is what encouraged him to make this show. Bhansali said, “It wasn’t easy, I can tell you that. To begin with I didn’t understand the medium. The whole thing about TRPs ruling the content was a little troubling. And the competition on the medium is just so intimidating. One has to sustain the viewers’ interests over a long period of time.”
When asked if he has any regrets on making the decision of making this show, he came out fiercely saying, “Are you joking? Of course not! I’ve learnt so much from the experience. I hope it gets the kind of attention and love that we’ve given it. When I decided to do a serial based on Govardhanram Madhavram Tripathi’s Gujarati novel Saraswatichandra I knew exactly what I was getting into. The book is a massive achievement running into several volumes.”
When asked how he picked lead actors Jennifer Winget (Kumud) and Gautam Rode (Saraswatichandra), he said, “We screen-tested many and that included them. Jennifer and Gautam came out with flying colours. They were the clear choices. No contest.”
Also speaking about how deep his involvement in TV be from now on, he said, “As deep as it can get. I’ve been very fortunate with this project. Star Plus has been extremely co-operative. There has been no interference from them. And yet they are there on the project hands-on. In spite of television being a new medium for me it has been a deeply enriching experience for me. The reactions I’ve got have been heartening. I hope to do more on television that hasn’t been done before.”
Wow! With this amazing show of his he sure has won many a hearts already like always.
